Bättenalp - Cultural Landscape Award 2007

Part 1
From the village square in Iseltwald, the trail leads past Louberli, always uphill to Werzisboden, the first level of Bättenalp with the restored Melchhüsi, a former milking parlour with cheese dairy. From here you have breathtaking views of the Bödeli (the plain between the lakes), Lake Brienz and Lake Thun as far as the Niesen. The route follows the alp road that passes through a tunnel. Shortly before the tunnel however, the trail branches off again and leads through karst rock formations to reach the middle of Bättenalp. The upper level is finally reached along the alp road.

Part 2
The mountain trail leads past Schwabhorn, from where you enjoy a wonderful view of the remote Sägistalsee lake before ending on the Faulhorn at 2681 metres above sea level.

The annual Cultural Landscape Award is presented to particularly beautiful and valuable cultural landscapes in the Oberland Ost region. Through support and image cultivation on the part of tourism, the award is intended to give farmers a small incentive to continue sustainable management and thus contribute to preserving the beauty of our natural world.
