- Destination: Gimmelwald, Schilthorn cable car station (1367 m a.s.l.)
On this via ferrata we do not gain height. On the contrary. Here we don't climb up, but down. The starting point is the Mürren viewing terrace, high above the Lauterbrunnen valley. More precisely, the intermediate station of the Schilthorn cable car, from where we reach the entrance to the via ferrata in just 15 minutes. This takes us over a steep precipice to Gimmelwald in about three hours - spectacular views of the Bernese four-thousand-metre peaks included.

Directions & Parking facilities
Mürren is car-free. We park in the Lauterbrunnen multi-storey car park (online reservation possible) or in the uncovered car park at the Schilthorn cable car in Stechelberg.
Thanks to its central location in Europe, Switzerland is served by international trains from over 12 countries. Within Switzerland, we travel directly to the Jungfrau Region on Intercity trains from Basel and Lucerne. Coming from Zurich we have to change trains in Bern. The trains run every half hour. In Interlaken Ost we take the Berner Oberland Bahn (BOB) to Lauterbrunnen, then the cable car to Grütschalp. From here it's another 14 minutes by train to Mürren. Alternatively, we can take the bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg, to the valley station of the Schilthorn cable car - and then take it via Gimmelwald to Mürren.

Safety guidelines
For the via ferrata we need good physical condition, surefootedness and a head for heights, appropriate equipment and knowledge of mountain behaviour. If you are inexperienced, it is advisable to do the via ferrata with a mountain guide. We only go to the wall in good weather - and leave immediately if the weather changes or there is a risk of thunderstorms. A carabiner always remains on the safety rope.
The via ferrata is at your own risk. Jungfrau Region Tourism declines all liability.
